Whoa Nellie!

Wednesday, 9. June 2010 20:30

Anyone who knows me – knows my love of 70s television. So imagine my joy to find Confessions Of A Prairie Bitchin the list of new releases for the month of June! Oh how I used to hate that Nellie Oleson (although not as much as I hated Mary – remember Mary? Man she got annoying towards the end of that show). But, seriously,  a “tell all” with all the back scenes gossip from Little House?? Sign. Me. Up. Oh come on – you know you want a copy!!!

An Awesome Book

Wednesday, 19. May 2010 21:27

I am a big fan of Dallas Clayton and am a frequent visitor to his website to admire his daily drawings and musings. So imagine my joy to discover that he’s written a children’s book and not just a book – An Awesome Book! And on top of that, he’s started a foundation and for every book he sells, he’s giving one away – distributing them to schools, hospitals, camps, shelters and libraries around the world.  How great is that? Check out more here.

The Food Rules

Wednesday, 13. January 2010 9:00

I love Michael Pollan and his books about the food we eat, why we eat it and what we should be doing to eat better for both ourselves and the planet. He most famously brought us the oft-repeated rule for healthy eating:  ”Eat Food. Not too much. Mostly plants.” And now he’s come out with a new book entitled Food Rules which is a handy purse-sized book full of funny and practical “sub-rules” to bear in mind when we’re out hunting and gathering.

The Food Rules were gathered from doctors, nurses, nutritionists and other professionals…as well as more earthy sources such as mothers and grandmothers! With rules such as “The whiter the bread, the sooner you’ll be dead” and “If it came from a plant, eat it. If it was made in a plant, don’t” – the book serves as a fun little reminder for all of us of how simple it can be to eat well if we just bear some basic food wisdom in mind. You can pick up the book from Amazon hereand you can read a short interview with Michael about the book here.
