I came across a post today on Yours Truly about 60s singer Jack Jones which included this video for his biggest hit “Wives and Lovers”. Now here’s the thing – I know I’ve heard this song before – but clearly I never really listened to the lyrics because as I was listening to it today all I could think was “whuck?”.  I mean I kind of always thought it would be fun to live in the 60s – peace, love and rock ‘n roll and all that – but now I’m convinced that with my luck I’d end up in this 60s – listening to some no-lipped man sing to me about how I better please my man or else “men being men” he’ll take up with one of the “girls” at the office. Guess this explains Jack Jones’s five wives.

You know how usually the musical guests on late night tv are the same bands that are appearing everywhere doing the same old versions of their same old songs….and you hang on hoping for something new and exciting? Well a couple of nights ago that’s exactly what viewers of David Letterman got with the national television debut of the amazing Ms. Janelle Monae. Holy man! Talk about epic. Nothing I say will do her justice – you just have to check out her performance for yourself and then check out the equally amazing official video for the song Tightrope.
